India Update: Multiplying Discipleship Across a Nation

India trip

India is a land of striking contrasts — from Delhi’s bustling streets to Siliguri’s peaceful tea plantations, it’s a sensory feast steeped in cultural diversity. As the world’s most populous nation and one of its oldest civilizations, India is often in the headlines — from tensions with Pakistan to major economic shifts like Apple moving production there.

Despite being 93% Hindu and facing ongoing persecution, the church in India continues to grow. According to tradition, the Apostle Thomas brought the Gospel to India and was martyred in Chennai in 72 AD. Today, the movement he helped spark is still alive and thriving.

Dan Fiorenza and I (Steve Sonderman) recently had the privilege of partnering with Reaching Indians Ministries International (RIMI), where we led three regional gatherings of men’s leaders in Delhi, Siliguri, and Bangalore. Thanks to Bejay Kumar, the National Director of Men’s Ministry, these events brought together around 100 leaders each, representing 6–8 states. Many traveled 20–30 hours by bus or train to be there!

We taught on launching a movement of men’s discipleship across India, covering topics like:

  • What is multiplication?
  • Starting and leading small groups
  • Stages of spiritual growth
  • Identifying and developing apprentices

We were inspired by their passion for Jesus, Scripture, and reaching the lost. One leader shared how, since last year’s training, he’s launched 10 small groups; another saw his group multiply four times! These leaders understand that real growth comes not just through making disciples, but by making disciple-makers.

After 12 unforgettable days, we returned home tired but energized, grateful to witness God’s work among ordinary men across India. Thank you for standing with us and No Regrets as we help carry forward a movement that began over 2,000 years ago.
